Significant changes at Symposium Print
The first half of 2017 has seen a lot of exciting and significant changes at Symposium Print. We are a well-respected commercial print house, large enough to be able to be handle all sizes of work, but not so large as to be unable to react to our client’s needs. We believe that utilising cutting edge technology to maximise our efficiency will benefit all our existing customers and enable us to forge relationships with new ones. With this in mind, we are proud to announce our new arrival!
New 10 colour perfecting press
With the industry moving towards ever faster turnarounds, the number of large multiple page documents we are being asked to produce has been increasing. It seemed sensible to investigate how we could move the business forward and give our customers what they wanted. For the last five years Symposium has been planning the purchase of a 10 colour perfecting press, now the company has made the investment. The Komori LS1029 10 colour perfecting press was installed in June. The latest Komori is the same model as our existing five-colour press with which we have been extremely pleased, so it made sense to continue with Komori. The 10 colour replaces the LS28 six colour which has given good service in the three years we have been running it.
So why have we gone to the expense of installing a 10 colour perfecting press?
We concluded, firstly that a significant amount of the work we are currently producing would be ideally suited for perfecting and secondly that there were some jobs where we weren’t keen enough on price or lead times. In addition, the 6 colour machine was an older, less technologically advanced model and just too slow for our needs. The 10 colour perfector will tackle both issues. The efficiency on the LS1029 is nearly double that of the 5 colour single sided press; the work comes off completed, no having to turn stacks or wait for drying times. So, we are now in the enviable position of being able to compete with the B1 market.
We can run Process 4 Colour plus Pantone Specials with the 10 colour, one-side or perfecting with a maximum running speed of 16,000sph, taking a maximum sheet size of 530mmx750mm. This allows us the flexibility to be able to produce a variety of jobs.
The machine’s added automation, with its autoplate loading, chilled rollers, autoblanket, cylinder wash and colour control management system, are major plus points. The colour control system scans every 500 sheets and adds necessary colour correction if required. Coupled with our existing 5 colour B2 press we are now able to offer a solution for all our Customer requirements.
